I was commissioned by the organization Experiments in Opera to compose music for an 8 piece SATB choir for a November 2nd premier at Abrons Art Center.

Also on the program will be works by Jason Cady and Matthew Welch, who are two of my oldest friends and composer comrades here in NYC, and a work by John Zorn who has been supportive of some of my recent chamber music projects with releases on his Tzadik label.  So yea, this concert is going to be a real family affair.  I will be spending most of the summer composing this work and being near the ocean as much as possible.

In August, I am headed to a residency for a few weeks where I will be recording a solo viola record and bouncing around in nature with a slew of other artists.  This music has been in the works since March but has been living inside me in various forms over the past decade.  It’s been interesting to see these ideas come to life and continuously transform in recent performances.

Im excited for what the summer will bring. It’s the best part of being a school teacher.  Â
